MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the department is to provide a broad based, functional and practical training in Animal Science bearing in mind the physical, mental and spiritual development of man that is characteristic of the Adventist education. The program is also designed to meet the needs of the immediate environment and agricultural sustainability. Such needs include boosting and improving animal production by developing appropriate manpower. Towards this end the Department offers courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in combined and special honor standards, in the following areas:

- Animal Biochemistry and Nutrition

- Animal Breeding and Genetics

- Animal Nutrition

- Animal Physiology and Reproduction

- Ruminant Animal Management and Production

- Monogastric Animal Management and Production

- Animal Products

OBJECTIVES

Graduates Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Science program are expected to be able to:

a) Take up employment in any agriculture related area

b) Establish and operate their own agribusiness as a mean of self employment.

c) Engage in production and research that will provide solutions to Nigeria’s agricultural problems.

d) Practice environment friendly activities as they utilize modern and technological principles in their agricultural career.

Admission Requirements

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

UTME: In addition to UTME score, the candidate should possess five credit passes in Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)/its equivalent to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science, Chemistry and Physics in not more than two sittings.

Direct Entry: Candidates for Direct Entry must have at least 2 credit passes in Advance level or its equivalents in Chemistry and Biology plus Five Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE)/its equivalent credit pass prescribed for UTME entry mode. Diploma Holders with a minimum of Lower Credit plus Five Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE)/its equivalent credit pass Level at a maximum of two sittings are eligible for consideration for admission into 200- and 300- levels, respectively.
